Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading children’s hospitals in the UK. Every year we care for over 270,000 children, young people and their families and we lead research into children’s medicines, infection, inflammation and oncology. We are at the forefront of world class practice, teaching and research, and we want to develop on this by establishing a brand-new entity: Alder Hey Academy, set up in conjunction with our partners from higher education, Health Education England and the NHS and social care providers in Liverpool and the wider west and north Lancashire region.  Our vision for the Academy is to be a recognised national and international centre of excellence for paediatric healthcare education and training, supporting skills and knowledge development at every level. In achieving this vision, we aim to deliver world renowned, inspirational training in specialist and general paediatric healthcare to all health and social care professionals.

We now seek a highly strategic individual who can lead the Academy and deliver ambitious outcomes and impact. Reporting to our Medical Director Nicki Murdoch and working closely with our Chief Nurse and our Director of HR and OD, the Academy Director is a new role in our leadership team, which means there is scope to shape the role. The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy and operating plan for the new Academy. This is a highly connective role, given that the strategic plan will be co-created with our partners.

We seek a new Director who has experience of strategic leadership and management gained within complex organisations where mission, vision and values are as important as delivering world-class outcomes. Knowledge of higher education, NHS and social care contexts is highly desirable, especially from a quality assurance perspective. This role depends on excellent influencing skills and the management of multi-disciplinary stakeholder relationships and therefore it is vital that the Director brings experience of managing complex relationships where achieving consensus and meeting shared objectives is an essential aspect.
